Ubiquiti launches three new Enterprise WiFi 7 APs
Ubiquiti has today revealed the E7, E7 Campus and E7 Audience
December 2, 2024
The new UISP Switch was launched in March 2022 and was one of the first hardware devices in the new UISP product line. Ubiquiti has followed up on this with other devices, such as the UISP Router and other WISP related products since. The switch retails for $139 in the US at store.ui.com.
When compared to the EdgeMAX devices, the UISP routing and switching hardware has a much cleaner aesthetic with rounded corners, white design and external power supplies which house the new 'Power TransPort' connecter.
On the front are eight GbE RJ45 ports all with 27v passive PoE that support 2-pair and 4-pair modes. Over on the right hand side is a single 1G SFP port. As this is aimed at WISP providers and people using a lot of airMAX or LTU gear, this is why there is a lack of any active PoE. The small jump from 24v to 27v will help with any cable loss that might occur and ensures the devices connected receive enough voltage.
On the UISP Switch there isn't a local GUI, but the first thing you see is the following message to get it online using the mobile app. I just opened the UISP app and it found the UISP Switch via Bluetooth and prompted to add itself to my UISP server.
Being a UISP device, the best experience is adding it to the UISP Application, which HostiFi hosts. The full feature set of the UISP Switch is exposed and is accessible from anywhere using the web or the UISP app on iOS or Android. The interface on the UISP application at least, looks very similar to an EdgeSwitch with access to the device details, port management and other settings. Even after adding the UISP Switch to the UISP application, the web GUI remains non-functional.
The TransPort connector is on the new UISP Switch and Router, as well as some upcoming hardware Ubiquti previewed in its latest YouTube video which contained new UISP Switches, routers and power solutions. It'll allow WISP owners to have a tidy and complete solution up on the roof or tower, while providing reliable power to their customers. All the latest devices from airMAX to UISP Wave all use 24v passive PoE so will work with the new UISP Switch.
The TransPort connector has a unique shape and can only go on one way, thankfully Ubiquti has a arrow indicator to show you this. Like some of the newer UniFi switches, there is locking switch to keep it in place - shame that there isn't on the IEC connector on the other end.
