You can run UniFi on pretty much anything, Windows, Ubuntu, macOS and Debian plus much more. If you want to host the UniFi Controller and not benefit from the simple setup HostiFi offers you can host Debian on a dedicated server, or from many cloud service providers, such as DigitalOcean and AWS.
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo apt install ca-certificates apt-transport-https curl gnupg -y
echo 'deb https://www.ui.com/downloads/unifi/debian stable ubiquiti' | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/100-ubnt-unifi.list
Then, add the UniFi GPG key:
curl -fsSL https://dl.ui.com/unifi/unifi-repo.gpg | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/unifi-repo.gpg > /dev/null
sudo apt update && sudo apt install unifi -y
sudo systemctl enable --now unifi
sudo systemctl status unifi
https://<server-ip>:8443
That's it! You should now have the UniFi Controller installed and running on your Debian instance!
HostiFi provides hosting for both Ubiquiti and TP-Link software-defined-networking (SDN) applications, with servers for UniFi, UISP and Omada. We also offer network consulting, with HostiFi Pro.
