Launched in the last few months, the UDB Pro takes the existing NanoBeam 5AC enclosure and makes it compatible with the UniFi controller - enabling better visibility and simplicity for the vast majority of users.

What does this new sector device do?

The Device Bridge Pro Sector has the exact same form factor as the airMAX Lite AP GPS and enables PtMP support for the Device Bridge Pro devices. Up until now, only PtP was supported when using two UDB-Pro devices together. Getting multiple UDB Pro units connected up to one AP was possible, but you had to use a standard UniFi AP as the access point device.

However, Ubiquiti has now borrowed some hardware design from its UISP side of the business to make outdoor PtMP deployments a bit easier for people.

The UDB-Pro-Sector has similar specs to the Lite AP GPS, but is around double the cost and has a few limitations. But this shouldn't be deal breaker for the vast majority of deployments.

For example, the UDB-Pro-Sector costs $199 in the US, whereas the Lite AP GPS comes in at just $99. The UniFi version supports 20MHz and 40MHz channel widths on 5GHz, whereas the Lite AP supports up to 80MHz. In reality, this won't make much difference.

What are the most important specs?

The most important things to know is that this supports standard PoE (802.3af), meaning that all UniFi switches will be able to power this up with no issues. In the past, when mixing airMAX and UniFi, you have had to use converters to step the PoE down from 48v to 24v.

The UDB-Pro-Sector can also handle 50+ UDB Pro stations, with a maximum range of 5km+. The sector coverage is 90º, so bear this in mind when planing deployments.

Availability

The new Device Bridge Pro Sector is on sale now direct from Ubiquiti in the US for $199. It is also listed in the UK for £190.80, but is "coming soon."
