Using UDM SE to power WISP radio on WAN

Power up a WISP radio from the UDM SE for the WAN

With a recent firmware update for the UDM SE (version 2.4.9) Ubiquiti added support for remapping the functionality on Port 8, 9, 10 and 11. This means we can do a few things, such as having both WAN connections on SFP+ and using the RJ45 2.5GbE interface for LAN.

We can also use port 8, one of the PoE ports for a WAN port, which if you use a WISP for internet, could be used to power up the antenna on the roof. This obviously depends on what type of equipment the WISP has decided to use, but all of the Ubiquiti airMAX, GigaBeam and LTU equipment will work with it. This will help make your network space or rack tidier.

What can I power up?

The UDM SE outputs 802.3af/at on ports 1, 2, 3 and 4 and 802.3af only on ports 5, 6, 7 and 8. The only airMAX radio that can be powered is the NanoStation 5AC, everything else will need to use a PoE converter, which converts 802.3af to 24v passive. This will work for any of the LTU CPE devices and the GigaBeam, GigaBeam Plus and GigaBeam LR.

Under the settings for the UDM SE, it is possible to re-map the ports. For example, in the below screenshots I am using port 8 for my WAN and have remapped port 9 for LAN.
